Today, we will talk about the Loran scholarship program, the requirements, the application process, and whatnot.
This scholarship is meant for Canadian high school students and CEGEP students who show signs of good character, leadership, and integrity. The scholarship is tenable in 25 public institutions in Canada and lasts for 4 years (if you keep to the terms and conditions).
Wondering how much this scholarship is worth? Loran Scholars are awarded up to $100,000 worth of undergraduate scholarship, up to $10,000 tuition waiver, and a $10,000 annual stipend.
There are still other advantages which I talked about in this article. Let’s get to it.
About the Loran Scholars Foundation
The Loran Scholars Foundation is a Canadian independent charitable organization that was established in 1998 by Dr. Robert Cluett.
The foundation believes invest in young Canadians who are of good character and are willing to make the world a better place. They offer scholarships and awards every year to eligible students.
From its inception, the foundation has awarded over $57 million worth of undergraduate scholarships to students across the country. Loran Foundation is supported by 25 Canadian universities, volunteers, and donors.
They believe there’s more to life than academics and students who demonstrate good character, service, and leadership should be supported.
Apart from the scholarship opportunity available to students, Loran Foundation has a program for teachers. Graduating Loran Scholars can nominate their former teachers for the Loran Teacher Building Leaders Award which is funded by McCall MacBain Foundation.
There are a lot of benefits of being a Loran scholar. You are matched with a reputable Canadian leader who will mentor you for 4 years.
Scholars also get access to paid summer internships which will last for 3 months and can take place in Canada or abroad. This will help gain valuable work experience in your field of study.
Loran Scholars are also privileged to be part of a peer network where they can meet other students, attend events and even participate in the Scholars forum. After graduation, Scholars can join the alumni community within and outside the country.

When should I hear back from the Loran scholarship?
If you just submitted your application, you will be notified within 24 hours when your application has been received by the Loran Foundation committee. Semi-finalists are contacted at least 14 days before their online interview.
The scholarship is really competitive and since it’s not based on academic achievements, this makes it even more challenging. Let me explain how competitive it is.
Over 5000 students apply for the Loran scholarship every year and only about 300 make it to the semi-finals. The semi-finalists are interviewed and only about 26% make it to the finals.
The finalists go through a rigorous selection process and the winners are announced on their website. It may seem difficult but in the end, it’s worth it.
