About the University of California San Diego
UCSD is a public university in La Jolla, California, on the Pacific Ocean. It was founded in 1960. It is one of the ten schools comprising the University of California system, offering graduate and undergraduate programs.

UCSD Admission Requirements
UCSD seeks students who will thrive in the University’s demanding research-intensive academic environment. As a result, the school emphasizes academic excellence through GPA, standardized test scores, and the rigor of high school courses.
Aside from academics, the University seeks students who will contribute to the diversity of the student body through their identity, unique talents, extracurricular interests, and community involvement.
The acceptance rate at UC San Diego is 24.7%. The acceptance rate for Indian students at UCSD is about 34.3%.
UC San Diego is a member of the University of California system, which consists of nine universities across California. The UC Application Portal is where students can apply to these universities. The best thing about this portal is that all UC campuses use it! So, after completing your general UC application, you check the boxes next to the U.C.s to which you want to apply, and your application is sent!
Every year, on August 1st, the U.C. application opens, and students can begin submitting their applications on November 1st. The application deadline for University of California schools is November 30th of each year. The University of California schools do not offer early admission.
The U.C. application is divided into the following sections
- About yourself: This section will request basic information about you and your families, such as your name, address, and social security number.
- Campuses and Majors: Choose which of the nine campuses you want to apply to and which majors you wish to pursue at each University.
- Academic History: In this section, you will manually enter all the high school courses and grades you received from all the schools you attended. It’s easiest to fill out this section with your transcript nearby.
- (A) Two years of history/social science required: One academic year of world history, culture, or geography or One year of U.S. history or half a year of U.S. government and half a year of U.S. history
- (B) English: A four-year degree is required.
- (C) Math: Three years are required, but four years are recommended. Geometry is needed for one year.
- (D) Laboratory science: Two years are required, but three years are preferred. Two of the following are required: physics, chemistry, or biology
- (E) Other than English: Two years are required, but three years are recommended.
- (F) Visual and performing arts: A one-year commitment is required.
- (G) One year of college preparatory electives is required.
- Applicants may Take A-F courses above the required number. Other acceptable methods include computer science, psychology, AVID, speech or debate, etc.
- Test Scores: The UCs will not consider SAT or ACT scores when making admissions decisions. You can still submit these test scores because they are used to determine eligibility for the California statewide admissions guarantee and an alternative method of meeting minimum eligibility or course placement requirements after enrolling.
- Activities & Awards: You can share your achievements and extracurricular activities throughout this section. Each one of these activities/awards must be classified into one of six categories:
- Honor or award
- Programs for educational preparation
- Extracurricular pursuits
- Other coursework (courses not needed for U.C. admittance that do not fit into the A-G subject areas at U.C.)
- Community service/volunteering Working Knowledge
- Scholarships & Programs: Select the categories that apply to you to be deemed for scholarships.
- Personal Insight: The most crucial section of the U.C. application, the unique insight questions, are answered in this section. You must answer four of the eight personal insight questions on the U.C. application. Each prompt has a word count of 350. Because there is only one application for all nine universities, your responses should be separate from school-specific.
